The Department of Industrial & Enterprise Systems Engineering in the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for one (1) open-rank (assistant, associate, or full professor level) tenure-track, full-time faculty position. The primary area of interest is in Systems Engineering and Design, with emphasis on topics such as design innovation, advanced manufacturing, digital twins, model-based systems engineering, lifecycle and mission assurance, and test and validation.
ISE is internationally recognized for research, teaching, and service spanning both fundamental and translational domains. We lead advances in systems engineering and design, engineering design science, optimization and decision sciences, data analytics, and human-centered engineering design, with impact across manufacturing, healthcare, next-generation infrastructure, energy, and autonomy.
Successful candidates will establish and sustain a world-class research program, teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to service to the department, the university, and the profession.
A doctoral degree in systems engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field is required at the start date. The targeted salary ranges for the position are $120,000 to $135,000 at the Assistant Professor level, $135,000 to $165,000 at the Associate Professor level, and $165,000 to $210,000 at the Full Professor level, for a 9-month service basis paid over 12 months. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. A start date is expected on August 16, 2026; however, this is negotiable.
