About Our Company:
Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) is the prime contractor overseeing the Hanford Mission Essential Services Contract at the DOE Hanford Site located in Southeast Washington State.
We have some of the most challenging work in the world. HMIS consists of several organizations responsible for many of the cross-cutting activities associated with Hanford cleanup. HIMS also oversees security, site infrastructure and utilities, information management, fire services, and business management.
JOB DUTIES/SCOPE OF WORK
The HMIS Fire Protection Engineering organization is responsible for providing resources for fire systems maintenance (across multiple contractors), configuration management of HMIS fire-related systems, and support for the identification and implementation of fire protection design requirements into new and existing infrastructure upgrade projects. The organization incudes Fire Protection Engineers that are focused on providing responsive, qualified engineering and compliance-oriented services to all aspects of HMIS’ engineering work scope.
At present we are looking to fill multiple Fire Protection Engineer positions. Specific job requirements are expected to include:
- Completing the HMIS Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) qualification in a timely manner after start of position.
- Developing fire protection functional requirements and design criteria for new design projects or modifications of existing facilities/systems in accordance with applicable HMIS Prime Contract requirements.
- Preparing Fire Hazard Analyses and Facility Fire Protection Assessments.
- Developing, reviewing, and approving plans, drawings and specifications of fire protection features for new or modified designs. This also includes engineering change requests, calculations, Statements of Work (SOW) and other engineering or technical documentation.
- Reviewing and approving procedures and test results for acceptance testing and commissioning of fire protection features.
- Providing input on routine interpretation of fire protection codes and standards.
- Providing technical support for inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire systems across multiple Hanford Site contractors.
- Input on the development and issuance of fire system deactivations.
- Ensuring that compliance with applicable fire protection program and design requirements is established and maintained.
- Interfacing with other internal and external organizations to ensure that fire protection system design solutions are communicated and implemented in accordance with approved design media.
- Qualify as a Deputy Fire Marshal for performance of compliance and oversight tasks as delegated by the Hanford Fire Marshal (in the role of the delegated Authority Having Jurisdiction [AHJ]).
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Fire Protection or other relevant Engineering discipline and have a Professional Member Grade (or meets the requirements for a Professional Member Grade) membership in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).
- OR -
A Fire Protection Engineer with a current/active Professional Engineering (PE) License in Fire Protection Engineering (if not current in Washington State, expectation is that it will be transferred via comity within 6 months of date of hire).
• Minimum of 12 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 3 of the 12 years in responsible charge of diverse fire protection engineering work.
• In depth knowledge (1) in the understanding and application of NFPA codes and standards applicable to fire detection, alarm and suppression systems, fire barriers, life safety, and (2) the DOE Order (DOE O 420.1C) and Standard (DOE-STD-1066-2016) related to fire protection for DOE Complex Sites.
• Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner (both written and verbal).
DESIRED QUALFICATIONS
- Advanced Engineering or Engineering Management degree.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license currently active in Washington State.
• Prior participation on NFPA codes and standards development committees.
• Prior Hanford Site or Government experience performing as a Fire Protection Engineer and/or Deputy Fire Marshal.
• NICET Certification(s).
Compensation & Benefits
Expected annualized pay range based on full time schedule (40 hours per week):
• Grade 21: $135,188 - $170,463
• Grade 22: $151,700 - $199,600
